From Carlsberg's Beer Production to Furniture, Sustainable Scandinavian Mater Design
Mater from Denmark, a young Scandinavian design brand whose philosophy is sustainability. The core idea of Mater design is to recycle, reuse and create new and durable products. For many years, Mater has been questing for new environmentally-friendly techniques to turn the waste into something aesthetic.
The design is the result of a new ground-breaking production method allowing Mater to use the low-value waste from Carlsberg’s beer production – the spent grain (Danish ‘mask’) – and turn it into useful and unique design solutions. In collaboration with the Danish Technological Institute Mater has developed a new industrial technology to process waste, e.g. spent grain from beer production along with other fibre-based waste materials.
Moreover, as a functional design, Mask Stool is also height-adjustable to meet different needs.
Mater, which means 'mother' in Latin, carries the aspiration and hope towards our mother Earth.
