Danish Modern Moller Chair, Uncompromising Traditional Craftsmanship
Minimal, subtle, yet distinctive, Moller Chair, the exertion of Danish craftsmanship, has always been a favourite by Scandinavian Modern Design enthusiasts.
The Moller Chair collection comes from JL Møller, founded in 1944 by Niels O. Møller named after the family business established by his father Jorgen L. Møller in the 1920s and forced to close during the recession. In 1952, the Moller Chair began to be exported to Germany and the United States and by 1974, the business was expanded to the Japanese market. Minimalist design, impeccable quality, and timeless modern design result in the internationally-acclaimed popularity of the Moller Chair.
Niels' son Jørgen said: "My father never compromised on anything... When he designs a chair, he finds the material and then designs the furniture. Each design took him five years to complete."
To this day, JL Møllers continues to emphasize the traditional Danish craftsmanship:
Each chair is handcrafted and assigned to a specific craftsman to finish a specific part
Tenons, mortices, and dowels are all glued by hand
Dowels are dried down to 5% while other components to 8% humidity for the best adhesion
All chairs are hand polished
The chair is shipped fully assembled and cannot be disassembled
