Elegant, stylish, independent - Nanna Ditzel (1923-2005), the first lady of Danish Modern Design, also known as an iconic figure of Scandinavian Modern Design along with Verner Panton, is a versatile designer in furniture, jewellery, fabric, industry, etc. On October 6 Nanna Ditzel's birthday, let's review some of her most internationally-acclaimed designs.

Trisse Series: "Trissen" in Danish means weaving spools, and the Trisse Table table is an evolution of the Trisse Toadstool series of children's furniture designed by Nanna in 1962. Nanna designed Trisse to create a "fun and interesting" seat for children.

Chill Lounge Chair: Designed in the late summer of 1961, Chill Lounge Chair was Nanna's first piece of furniture as an independent designer after the death of her first husband, Jørgen Ditzel. Made from Indonesian sustainable rattan.

Trinidad Chair: Trinidad Chair designed in 1993 was inspired by the gingerbread façades on colonial buildings that Nanna saw while travelling on Trinidad Island in the Caribbean. The chair produces pattern projections through the interaction of light and shadow, bringing a subtle movement.

Hanging Egg Chair: Nanna's mother is sitting on the Hanging Egg Chair designed by Nanna and her first husband Jørgen Ditzel in 1959. The hanging egg chair, which defies gravity and embodies free unrestrained leisure, has been a massive success since its launch.

Ocean Table & Ocean Chair: Designed in 1955 by Nanna Ditzel and her first husband Jørgen Ditzel, the Ocean Table and Ocean Chair reflect Nanna's passion for the ocean. In 2019, the Danish Modern design brand Mater made a sustainable reinterpretation of this classic design – using ocean waste plastic (fishing nets), recycled plastic (PP) and Carlsberg’s waste plastic from beer keg (latest). The design received the Wallpaper Magazine Design Award in early 2019.
